Objectives: Based on mirror neurons, we want to know the relationship between the empathy of mothers perceived by male and female adolescents and the adolescent¡¯s own empathy for others.
Methods: 154 copies of the online survey for middle and high school students were conducted with SPSS.
Results: First, male adolescents had a high positive correlation between mother¡¯s empathy and others¡¯ empathy, and emotional understanding had a positive correlation with mother¡¯s empathy regardless of gender. Mother¡¯s age was negatively correlated with male adolescents¡¯ surrogate feelings and female adolescents¡¯ role acceptance. Second, the influence of mother¡¯s empathy perceived by adolescents and demographic characteristics of mothers and children on adolescents¡¯ empathy with others was significant only in understanding emotions and role accepting roles. For all adolescents, mother¡¯s empathy had a positive effect, and mother¡¯s age had a negative effect. As a result of gender classification, only female adolescents had a significant influence.
Conclusion: This suggested that mothers¡¯ empathy for their children should be preceded in order to elicit empathy for others in our society where various issues of youth are an issue.
